Welcome to IMA Basket

Irene Ames produces ash baskets bearing the trademark starshaped pattern used by the Sweetser family since 1820. She studied under a fourth generation basket maker and Sweetser descendent. Irene has recieved four apprenticeship grants from Vermont, New Hampshire, and The New England Institute for the Arts, and her work has appeared at the Vermont Folklife Center. In 1996, Irene was filmed by the Carol Duval Show at the Stowe, Vermont Handcrafter’s Show.
